Slovakia's TOP20 defense companies boosted revenue by 60% last year to €1.1bn. The growth rate accelerated sharply after the sector expanded by a third in 2023 and a quarter in 2024. Farmakol is selling its pharmacies
Anti-trust authority PMÚ is reviewing a deal in which companies Pharmale and Ostenpharm are each acquiring 13 pharmacies from Farmakol. (antimon.gov.sk) The domestically owned chain originally had 50-60 pharmacies. Unipharma holds a minority stake in both of the new owners.
Tesco is considering selling its Central European operations
British retailer Tesco is considering selling its Central European operations, including in Slovakia, the Financial Times reports. The move would see the company refocus on its domestic market after 30 years of trying to build a global empire. It employs 22,000 people and operates 561 stores across Slovakia, Czechia, and Hungary. Impressions for Slovak ads on Google jumped 67% and on YouTube 152% in 2025
The number of impressions for Slovak ads on Google jumped 67% last year, according to monitoring by Zircon Tree. Advertising in Slovakia was driven by foreign players (Temu, Allegro, Shein) as well as numerous smaller domestic companies. YouTube ad impressions soared 152%, as the number of advertisers surged from 29,000 to 50,000. Zircon Tree did not attempt to estimate the financial volume of ad spending or its effectiveness. Valeo Foods paid Pavol Jakubec €370m for confectionery maker I.D.C. Holding
Ireland's Valeo Foods paid Pavol Jakubec a total of €370m for confectionery maker I.D.C. Holding (brands including Horalka and Mila), company financial statements show. Under its new owner, the company early-repaid an €85m loan from SLSP and €28m in bonds, which carried interest rates of 1.2% to 3.9%.
