Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen, said the car maker plans to invest €1bn into its plant in Bratislava. After VW canceled plans for a new plant in Turkey and the pandemic reduced demand for cars, the capacity in Bratislava will be increased. VW is yet to specify what models it will make in Bratislava. At present, the plant makes petrol, diesel, and hybrid models of five brands, mainly SUVs and small city cars. In July, VW signed a memorandum with the Slovak government about a €500m investment. The government pledged to build 2,000 rental apartments and support the education and transport of VW employees.
