U.S. Steel restarted its 3rd blast furnace

Košice-based steel mill U.S. Steel restarted the blast furnace it shut down 1.5 years ago due to low demand. All three of its blast furnaces are in operation now. It says market outlook is still uncertain, whether it is demand or the prices of inputs, emission allowances, and steel. In 2019, it announced a plan to cut 2,500 of 12,000 jobs by the end of 2021. The Slovak metals sector output rose 4% annually in October 2020 and 13.9% in November.
