Kia plant in Žilina moving from diesel to electric motor production

Žilina-based carmaker Kia plans to shut the part of its engine plant that makes diesel engines by mid-2027, HN's sources said. The move reflects a shift in demand and production toward electric vehicles. The engine plant has 700 workers. Rather than mass layoffs, normal staff turnover will likely absorb the job losses. The group recently opened a €180m Mobis plant in Nováky that will produce 280,000 electric powertrain systems a year. The plant employs 300 people. Another group company, Wia, will soon hire 250 people in Martin to make drive shafts for electric vehicles.
