The state gives VšZP €200m, SaS disagrees

Despite the coalition party SaS’ disapproval, the government approved another €98m subsidy to the state-owned health insurer VšZP. Recently, it provided VšZP with €100m on top of the approved state budget, as the pandemic has reduced its revenues and increased its costs. Also, the subsidies are a way to settle the €200m loss VšZP suffered under Smer’s governments. SaS says the assistance could be unconstitutional and it hurts private insurers Dôvera and Union (they control 43% of the market). SaS MP Jana Cigániková says Marek Krajčí is a weak minister who refuses to discuss his plans and is taking steps toward the monopoly of a single health insurer. Private insurers protest the subsidies to VšZP, but Krajčí sees no reason to share their losses as they did not share their profits.
