Wolfram Kirchert, BoD chairman of the Bratislava plant of Volkswagen, refused to meet Smer MEPs Erik Kaliňák and Ľuboš Blaha over the dismissal of a worker who repeatedly tore down a rainbow flag from the plant’s building. Kirchert said Smer politicians were uninterested in a factual discussion and were focused on political self-promotion. The politicians responded with complaints about the "arrogance of a foreign corporation" that is Slovakia's largest private employer. Their supporters posted online comments about German "superiority over Slavs" and VW’s Nazi roots.
