Smer attacks courts
Justice Minister Boris Susko is proposing the harshest punishment for Supreme Court (SC) judge Juraj Kliment: dismissal as a judge. The reason for this is the recent European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling in the case of the judge Denisa Cviková. An SC senate including Kliment left her in custody over corruption charges, but ECHR says her rights were violated on procedural grounds. Susko and Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (both Smer) call Kliment a political activist because of his decisions in corruption cases involving Smer officials. Dozens of people, including judges, have pleaded guilty in the Smer corruption cases.
