Slovalco starts to shut down production in October
Žiar nad Hronom-based aluminum smelter Slovalco announced to its staff on Tuesday that it will start shutting down production and laying off 300 of its 500 workers in October, HN sources say. Only the recently launched €15m aluminum recycling unit will keep working. Some nearby factories processing aluminum will also be axing jobs; they employ 2,500 people. Slovalco explains the move by high electricity prices, the falling price of aluminum and low compensation for energy prices from the state.
