Slovakia remains among the poorest EU countries, according to the latest Eurostat purchasing power standards (PPS) data. In 2024, actual individual consumption—a measure of material welfare—ranged from 72% of the EU average in Hungary to 141% in Luxembourg. Similarly, GDP—a measure of economic activity—ranged from 242% in Luxembourg to 66% in Bulgaria. Slovakia recorded the 5th and 4th lowest figures, respectively.
