Slovakia remains among the poorest EU countries

Slovakia remains among the poorest EU countries, according to the latest Eurostat purchasing power standards (PPS) data. In 2024, actual individual consumption—a measure of material welfare—ranged from 72% of the EU average in Hungary to 141% in Luxembourg. Similarly, GDP—a measure of economic activity—ranged from 242% in Luxembourg to 66% in Bulgaria. Slovakia recorded the 5th and 4th lowest figures, respectively. AIC and GDP per capita in PPS as a share of the EU average in 2024:
