Slovakia is the 4th least prosperous EU member
Slovakia ranked 29th globally in the Prosperity Index compiled by SLSP, up from 45th place in 2016. However, it ranks lowly 23rd among the 27 EU countries. Czechia ranks 14th. Slovakia has made very few reforms in the last decade and is not getting richer as fast as it used to. The quality of education and healthcare is very low. Investments in research and education are needed to stimulate growth. Political parties, however, prefer promises of higher social benefits and pensions.
