Slovakia does not want emission allowances imposed on fuels
Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba wants to negotiate with the EU an exemption from a new EU directive that would increase the price of diesel and petrol by at least 10-14 cents per liter from 2027. Czechia is following a similar approach. The directive would impose emission allowances in fuels; at the moment, the allowances apply mainly to industrial and energy companies. On Wednesday, the government debated a new emissions bill, without a passage on emission allowances, but postponed approval.
