Slovak car plants were among those with the highest capacity utilization in the EU last year
Slovak car plants were among those with the highest capacity utilization in the EU last year, Just Auto data show. The Kia and Stellantis plants were running at full capacity, and capacity utilization at VW and Jaguar Land Rover was also relatively high. Meanwhile, a third of European plants ran at less than half capacity, mainly in Western and Southern Europe. The main reason for this is low demand, with annual car sales in Europe still 3m below pre-pandemic levels. Growth in electric car sales has slowed sharply and Chinese makers, led by BYD, are making a strong push. Carmakers are likely to close plants in Western Europe, mainly in Germany.
