QR code payments in retail stores from November

The Finance Ministry plans to pilot QR code payments in retail stores from November through March 2026, Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický said. QR payments will eventually become mandatory, aiming to reduce tax evasion. The system will allow stores to avoid card fees from Visa and Mastercard. QR payments will be technically feasible from October, when all banks will be required to support instant payments.
