Penta expands in healthcare

PMÚ, the anti-trust authority, is reviewing an acquisition by Dr.Max (Penta) of the 47 Apotheke (Milan Vrúbel) pharmacies. The deal’s value was not disclosed. Apotheke is one of the three large chains in Slovakia still not owned by Dr.Max (the others are Schneider and Farmakol). Until now, it belonged to one of the largest Slovak drug distributors, Unipharma, which has recently been bought by Vrúbel. Until now, Dr.Max had 350 pharmacies in Slovakia. (dennikN.sk) Apotheke reported a €0.4m net profit on €2m sales last year.

Penta is also acquiring a large Polish hospital chain, GNS, and hundreds of pharmacies in Romania.
