The number of crimes in Slovakia has dropped by two-thirds since its peak in 2004, Interior Ministry data show. The government’s Institute for Strategy and Analysis attributed the decline to rising living standards and improved property security. The most significant drop has been in property crime (theft, burglary). This type of crime is now concentrated in Bratislava and Košice, where the most affluent households live.
