Nippon Steel wants modular nuclear reactor in Košice

Nippon Steel’s Košice steel mill is asking the state to secure construction of a modular nuclear reactor nearby. Once the first electric furnace replaces coal burning, the plant’s electricity consumption will double to 3 TWh a year, and a second furnace under consideration would lift it to 6 TWh. Modular reactor technology has not yet been developed.
