Matovič wants €300m from Slovnaft
Finance Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO) today will submit to the government legislation slapping a 30% tax on the price difference between cheaper Russian crude oil and Brent crude oil. The tax is to be paid on Russian oil processed in Slovakia. Russian oil currently costs $82 a barrel and Brent $114, the usual difference being just $5. Matovič aims to collect €280m annually. Slovnaft warns that the price gap emerged after the Russian invasion and may soon disappear. SaS responded that it would veto any new tax. This new tax, the party says, will increase already high fuel prices.
