While Slovak breweries report an 8% drop in sales for 2020, local spirits makers had a relatively good year. During the pandemic, Slovaks bought more alcohol in stores, fully compensating for the lower consumption in pubs. Sales of the local market leader St. Nicolaus (Ján Sabol) stagnated at €31m, but its net profit doubled to €1.1m. GAS Familia (Gurega family) increased its sales 4% to €13.4m and posted an €0.8m net profit following eight years in the red. Karloff (Semaňák family) improved its net profit 15% to €1.3m despite a slight drop in sales to €10.4m. Frucona (Rastislav Machunka and Ján Király) kept its sales at €28m and Old Herold posted a 4% drop in sales to €16.3m.
