Jaguar Land Rover will assemble batteries in Nitra
The Nitra Jaguar Land Rover car plant plans to build a new hall for the assembly of battery units for electric cars. This will not be complex battery production, but only the assembly of battery cells made by other manufacturers. The plant will also expand the vehicle assembly and finishing hall, but production capacity will remain at 150,000 cars a year. It has not yet disclosed the size of the investment. It will produce electric cars from 2030.
Similarly, the Trnava Stellantis plant also assembles batteries for electric cars; it has invested €6m in the technology and employs 80 people. Porsche is investing €1bn in battery production in Horná Streda. Chinese company Gotion plans to invest billions in a battery production plant in Šurany. It is possible that the new Volvo car plant in Košice will also produce its own batteries.
