The Health Ministry published its draft division of hospitals into five categories according to the care they will provide from 2024. The top three categories include hospitals from regional capitals, while only Bratislava will have facilities in the top category. Most of Penta's hospitals are also in this group. Some 50 hospitals, providing 75% of hospital admissions, are in the lowest two categories. Hospitals in the last category will provide long-term care. As in the past, local politicians will lobby for "their" hospitals and the proposal will change.
