Labor Minister Erik Tomáš said the government is considering reopening the second pension pillar to help reduce next year’s fiscal deficit, a shift from his previous stance opposing changes. Successive Fico-led governments have reopened the second pillar multiple times, prompting 420,000 people to exit and channeling over €1bn into the state coffers. Nearly 2m Slovaks remain in the second pillar, with €16bn invested.
