A cabinet office ÚV report backs Ukraine’s EU accession. Although Slovakia would lose part of its cohesion funds, it would benefit from higher economic growth. Refugees from Ukraine working in Slovakia would help address local labor shortages, while Slovak companies could participate in rebuilding Ukraine. Agriculture would pose a challenge, as Ukraine would represent significant competition for Slovak farmers. Since 2022, Slovakia has spent €509m to support Ukraine, of which the EU has reimbursed €424m. The report estimates the state budget gained €439m in 2022-24 from taxes on labor and consumption of Ukrainian refugees.
