Gas storage in Slovakia is the most expensive among neighboring countries, said Hirman. According to him, the regulator set a price of €6 per MWh, while prices in the EU range from €1 to €2. As a result, foreign traders do not use Slovak storage facilities and the Slovak storage level is only 40% compared to the European average of 53%.
Another factor behind the rising gas price in Slovakia is that state-owned SPP still does not have a contract with any major gas supplier besides Gazprom, making it the only company in Europe in this position. It will be forced to buy gas under pressure and at high prices.
