Foxconn plans to make chips in Nitra
The Nitra plant of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn has been producing only TV sets so far but is getting ready to produce chip sets for electric cars. The plant is paying its workers €65 to get vaccinated, but their vaccination rate remains a lowly 30%. Last year, the plant’s sales were down 17% from €1.2bn in 2019, but profitability improved thanks to efficiency gains. The demand for TVs remains strong, but production is limited by shortages of chips, plastics, metals and paper packaging.
