Food producers fear being forced to fund retailers' marketing
Domestic food producers condemned retailers’ initiative to cap the prices of 400 foodstuffs for the next three months. Neither the chains nor the government discussed the initiative with them in advance and producers fear that they will be the ones to finance it. They warn of a possible violation of economic competition rules and a cartel of retailers. (pravda.sk, dennikN.sk)
The local bakers' union points out that retailers increased the prices of bread by 10% just before announcing the price guarantees. The dairy farmers' union also reckons that the guaranteed prices for dairy products are inflated. The capped prices are much higher than the current prices of some produce in the promotional offers.
