Fees are becoming an ever more important revenue stream for banks

Fees are becoming an ever more important revenue stream for Slovak banks in the current low interest rate environment. The banking sector’s net fee revenue rose 9% annually to €325m during the first half of this year, and represented 40% of net interest revenue. The latter fell 3% to €809m. Back in 2015, the share was just 29%. It is the highest in VÚB, over 52% (net fee revenue of €68.5m and net interest revenue of €131.6m). SLSP posted a 36% share, and Tatra banka 47%. Banks are increasing fees for cash transactions at branches but are mainly relying on increasing sales of insurance and investment products.
