European Commission is looking into O2 sale to e&
The European Commission opened an in-depth investigation to assess, under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR), the acquisition by e& of PPF telecoms assets in Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Serbia. The EC has preliminary concerns that e& may have been granted subsidies from the Abu Dhabi government that could distort the EU internal market. This is the first EC investigation using new powers granted by FSR. e& agreed last year to pay €2.2bn for the assets, including a 51% stake in Slovakia’s mobile phone operator O2.
