Energy sector overtook telecommunications as the most profitable industry

The energy sector overtook telecommunications as the most profitable industry in Slovakia, driven by high energy prices, according to Finstat data. The net profit margin in the sector was 4.5%, while electricity and gas reported 12%. However, telecoms retained the highest EBITDA margin at 35%. The largest operators employed 9,000 people last year, with an average salary of €3,150 (up 7.1% annually). Four sectors posted EBITDA margins between 9% and 10%: IT, insurance brokers, mining, and healthcare. Within healthcare, dentists, specialists and GPs were the most profitable. The automotive industry has all three major car plants among Slovakia’s top earners, but six contractors rank among the most loss-making.
