Demand for family home renovation subsidies may be too low

The state launched the first call for family home renovation subsidies on October 15 and allocated €15m for standard and €15m for low-income applicants. So far, it has only 860 standard and 60 social applicants. It remains to be seen whether the entire €523m allocation will be spent by 2026. SAŽP, the environmental agency that processes the applications, says the number of applications is "adequate". It aims to launch the next, bigger call in January. If demand is low, it will ease the conditions. (pravda.sk) Experts warn that households must first renovate homes using their own money or a bank loan and only then are reimbursed. Low-income households are thus de facto excluded from the subsidy scheme.
