The current government already signed €1.8bn in weapons contracts, public sector contract registry CRZ data compiled by Zastavme korupciu, a pressure group, show. The record holder is Eduard Heger’s government (€2.2bn), while the previous Fico government signed contracts worth €1.9bn. The problem with the current government is the absence of tenders and analyses by the Value for Money Unit. The high level of spending is understandable given the huge investment debt. The largest current contracts are for trucks (Tatra; €708m), air defense systems (Israel; €554m), and helicopters (Ace Aeronautics; €244m). Both Tatra and Ace Aeronautics are financed by Slovak Viktor Jelínek, who has ties to Norbert Bödör.
