Copy of Volkswagen made 18% fewer cars in Bratislava in 2020

Penta is selling its stake in publisher Petit Press; 34% is being bought by Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF; George Soros) and 5.5% by Petit Press managers Alexej Fulmek, Peter Mačinga and Marek Václavík. MDIF, a non-profit investment fund for independent media, helped the publisher with a loan for a printing press in the 1990s. PSIS (Vajda family) is keeping its majority stake. Penta entered the publisher in 2014 but failed to acquire a majority stake. Most journalists of the Sme daily left to set up the successful N daily. Penta owns Slovakia’s largest publisher, News and Media Holding (Plus 7 Dní and Trend weeklies, for instance), and does not intend to sell it. (sme.sk) Petit Press increased its net profit 70% to €1m last year but its sales were down 13% to €21.1m.
