Dutch-Belgian group Ahold Delhaize will buy the Slovak and Czech chains of Britain's Tesco for €1.2bn. Including lease liabilities, the deal is valued at €1.7bn. The group will return to Slovakia after 13 years, having previously run the Hypernova store chain here. It owns the Albert chain in Czechia. Tesco has 180 stores, three logistics centers and 6,500 employees in Slovakia, where it posted revenue of €1.7bn last year. Its net profit was just €26m, while its biggest rivals Lidl and Kaufland each earned €91m. Their owner, Germany's Schwarz Gruppe, was reportedly among the suitors, along with Biedronka.
