Bratislava highway bypass has quality issues
A consortium led by Cintra of Spain built the first part of the Bratislava highway bypass in such a low quality that the authorities only allowed its conditional opening. All shortcomings must be addressed before normal use is allowed. These include cracked concrete and metal safety barriers, insufficiently reinforced slopes, poor-quality curbs and median strips, rusty noise barriers and poor-quality service roads. Interestingly, Cintra will operate the bypass for 30 years and has every motive to build a high-quality highway. However, it was found to use waste and asbestos in the highway’s foundations.
