FS is extraordinarily diligent in checking fraudulent VAT refunds
The tax authority FS is extraordinarily diligent in checking VAT refunds from 2012-13. Its IT system was not working then, and it suspects tax fraud. It often claims unpaid VAT from suppliers of fraudulent firms that had no clue about the tax evasion. FS reckons companies should be more careful in checking their clients. FS, for example, claims €0.8m in VAT from the Slovak plant of German firm Valsabbia, which, back in 2013, supplied steel to a Hungarian company which failed to pay VAT home. Valsabbia argues it can’t be held responsible for later fraud of its client. FS is claiming €3m from another company after the fourth firm in a chain failed to pay up VAT.
