Slovakia used the 15 years of its EU membership for the fastest economic expansion in the region
Slovakia used the 15 years of its EU membership for the fastest economic expansion in the region. It recorded the highest growth in GDP and wages, as well as the highest fall in unemployment. GDP per capita rose 142% in Slovakia, compared to 125% in Poland, 92% in Czechia and 53% in Hungary. The average wage more than doubled. The economic improvement came on the back of EU and euro zone’s membership, reforms of the Mikuláš Dzurinda government in 2002-06 and the arrival of three car makers.
