Slovakia will abolish 1- and 2-cent coins
Retail alliance ZO proposed doing away with 1- and 2-cent coins; the idea has the backing of the central bank NBS and the Finance Ministry. Stores find dealing with the coins labor intensive and costly. Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Italy have already restricted their use. Prices would be still set in cents, but the value of the entire purchase would be rounded to five cents if paid in cash.
