Delayed trains with iron ore in Ukraine put production in U.S. Steel Košice at risk

Delayed trains with iron ore on Ukrainian railways are putting production at several steel mills in the CEE region at risk. The delays stem from a massive rail track renovation program there. U.S. Steel Košice had to shut down one of its furnaces temporarily. Czech Třinecké železárny has complained of insufficient supplies and is using stockpiles created in the past. PM Peter Pellegrini has written a letter to Ukrainian President Viktor Poroshenko. Iron ore traveling through Ukraine covers two thirds of U.S. Steel Košice’s needs. It imports the rest from Latin America, via Polish ports.
