Strategies of football clubs
Top football clubs in Slovakia employ different strategies. This year’s title went to Spartak Trnava (Vladimír Poór), the budget of which (€4m) is less than half that of the richest club, Slovan Bratislava (Ivan Kmotrík; €9m). Both clubs depend on subsidies from their controversial owners. Clubs MŠK Žilina and AS Trenčín turn profits thanks to their youth academies and sale of players. DAC Dunajská Streda (Oszkár Világi) is co-financed by the city and the Hungarian government. Thanks to investments into stadiums, spectator numbers were up last season, and even TV ratings improved.
