The coalition party SNS will propose a special levy on retail chains, said its leader Andrej Danko. He wants to collect tens of millions of euros annually for farmers, to finance a tax break on fuels (so-called green diesel) and a new fund compensating them for damage to crops caused by bad weather. Danko also wants to punish retailers for selling too low a share of Slovak foodstuffs. The SNS’ election program includes a 6% levy from retailers’ turnover. The Finance Ministry has allegedly agreed to the new levy. Banks, insurers, and energy and telecom firms already pay special sectoral levies.
