Žitňanská managed to suppress the influence of family ties in selecting judges

The new centralized selection of new judges, pushed through by ex-Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská (Most-Híd), suppressed the influence of family ties. In the past, candidates with a family member at the courts had 4-times the chance of succeeding in the job tender, and this led to one-third of new judges having relatives already at the courts. Now, just 11% of the new judges have relatives at courts. The share of candidates with family ties has remained stable, but their success rate has fallen dramatically.
