Finance Ministry plans to introduce a new digital services tax
The Finance Ministry plans to introduce a new digital services tax and will present legislation in September. The new tax will apply on revenues from the provision of digital services, such as the sale of online advertising space, digital mediation services, and the sale of users’ data. The Slovak draft will be based on a directive the EU submitted in March. The EU directive aspires to tax companies such as Google and Amazon in countries where they create value and not where they place their fictitious HQ. The EU will base its tax on the companies’ revenues and not profits.
