2,000 doctors filed notices, hospitals will collapse
Fully 1,948 doctors handed in notices as of Thursday and their number is growing, the doctors’ labor union LOZ announced. According to LOZ, 5,000 doctors work in hospitals. If no agreement with the government is reached, the doctors will quit on December 1 after the notice period expires. When 1,200 doctors threatened to quit in 2011, hospitals were paralyzed. Health Minister Vladimír Lengvarský (OĽaNO) will continue to negotiate with LOZ and hopes to avoid any restrictions on healthcare. LOZ has eight demands, including wage hikes for doctors and nurses, and changes in education and hospital financing. It want to stem the outflow of doctors and nurses. Lengvarský wants to fulfill some conditions by the end of the year, others by 2024.
