Tunnel under Donovaly financialy unviable

A Žiar nad Hronom-Martin speedway would be a better link between central and northern Slovakia compared to a speedway under Donovaly (Banská Bystrica-Ružomberok), but neither route makes financial sense yet, a Transport Ministry study found. Traffic intensity would be too low compared to the costs. The financial viability of both options is being reduced by the fact that the north-south link through the Kysuce region is to be completed in the coming years. The study recommends the southern link to Hungary along the Žiar nad Hronom route via Tlmače and Levice. So far, the Zvolen-Krupina-Šahy variant has been envisaged.

The new government is free to ignore the study.
