The central bank NBS presented a report on structural challenges, stating the country faces deglobalization, climate change and an ageing population. Its future will depend on its ability to transition to an innovative economic model. Trade wars may result in slower growth, job losses and additional pressure on the budget. Slovakia is no longer attractive to foreign investors, and domestic companies are investing significantly less than in previous years. Growing poverty in eastern regions requires urgent attention. Positively, labor productivity is growing, and reforms tied to the Recovery Facility are underway in education and public administration. The NBS recommends improving education, increasing research and development funding, and curbing the brain drain.
