State subsidies for household energy prices will continue into 2027

The Economy Ministry told energy suppliers that state subsidies for household energy prices will continue into 2027, the Association of Energy Suppliers reported. Specific parameters will be announced later. Both the EU and the OECD are urging the government to end the aid, warning that it threatens the state's fiscal position and discourages households from saving energy. Ending the aid in an election year is unlikely, though. Slovenské elektrárne will continue supplying cheap electricity, and the state budget will keep subsidizing heat and gas prices. Without the aid, electricity and gas prices would rise 15-20%. Fiscal responsibility council RRZ estimates the cost of continuing the aid under unchanged conditions at €260m. The state has spent €4bn on the subsidies so far, enough to have built eight hospitals.
