Sales of carbonated sugary soft drinks fell 12% annually in January-May, according to Nielsen data. The drop was even sharper in the juice category, at 15%. The overall non-alcoholic beverage market declined by 6%, and our drop was smaller, said Dimo Dimov, director of Coca-Cola HBC CR and Slovakia. He cited the new sugary drinks tax and weakening demand amid broader tax hikes as key factors. Consumption of soft drinks remains below pre-pandemic levels. Coca-Cola sells 65% of its beverages on promotion. Dimov added that beverage producers have complied with government demands regarding changes to the PET bottle deposit-return system, and there is no risk of nationalization.
