The EU is yet to publish the final draft of its embargo on Russian oil imports, but Slovnaft fears it will allow Slovakia to import only until the end of August 2023. PM Eduard Heger said Slovakia would be allowed to use Russian oil until it had an alternative. Should imports end in August 2023, Slovnaft warns of fuel supply outages in Slovakia and neighboring countries where it exports two-thirds of its output. Slovnaft can produce less diesel from non-Russian oil and changes in its technology as well as pipelines require time and money.
