The gap between ideal and actual VAT collection in Slovakia in 2022 was 14.6% (€1.4bn), down from 16.3% in 2018. This is still the 3rd-highest level in the union, where the average was 7%, the latest European Commission report shows. The Finance Ministry estimated the so-called VAT gap at 13.3% in 2022 and 10.3% last year. The decline is due to the introduction of the VAT control report and eKasa, as well as the reverse charge in the construction sector. Czechia has just a 4.2% gap.
