Although Slovakia has met its climate targets for 2020, it is not on track for zero emissions in 2050, reads the OECD Environmental Performance Review. Emission-free electricity generation is a strength, but industry and transport are worse off. OECD also points at shortcomings in nature protection, namely the low share of national parks under strict protection and the lack of conservation plans. Completion of national park zoning should be a priority. Slovakia's declining biodiversity is another issue.
