Slovak population fell again in 2024, by 5,000 to 5.419m
The Slovak population fell again last year, by 5,000 to 5.419m, ŠÚ reported. It peaked at 5.460m in 2021. Eurostat expects Slovakia to lose almost a million inhabitants by 2100, passing the 5m mark in 2065. The number of births fell to just 46,000 last year and the fertility rate is 1.49 children per woman. Last year, 6,800 people immigrated to Slovakia and 4,400 moved away.
